As the cold weather is rapidly approaching, many of us cringe at the thought of winter. For example, shoveling the sidewalk, scraping the frost of the windshield, and making sure we are all bundled up for the brisk, cold winter air. Even though there are a lot of downfalls, there are also a lot of good aspects to look forward to. The Minneapolis metro area has an abundance of winter activities to offer.

For those who find live entertainment stimulating, the city offers several options for a trip out to the theatre. Starting off December 3rd ,and 5th, the Ordway Center is showing the "Colors of Christmas", followed by "Linda Eder Holiday Concert" on the 6th. All tickets range from $26-$50 dollars. For more info, check out their web site at www.ordway.com. If you're a big fan of the fifties and sixties, definitely check out "Smokey Joe's Café" at the Hey City Theatre. "Smokey Joes Café" is Broadway's longest running musical. If you are looking for a classic holiday play, go and check out "Loyce Houton's Nutcracker Fantasy", that includes dancers from the Minnesota Dance Theatre and the American Ballet Theatre. This play starts December 15th at the Orpheum Theatre. For ticket information on these plays, go to www.heycity.com. Another holiday tradition for most is stopping by the Guthrie Theatre to see "A Christmas Carol", a performance filled with great music and dancing. Even though the warmth of the fireplace is hard to leave, here are some great ideas for outdoor activities. Starting November 24th through December 26th is the annual "Holidazzle Parade", with floats, music groups, marching band, and more. This event is free to the public. For most AI students it's just a walk down the street. The parade starts on Nicollet and 12th and lasts about a half hour. This is a fun eye-tantalizing event.
