The Proposal

December 13, 2002

Andrea: Like a child I just wanted an early christmas present. Little did I know that wish would actually come true.

Peter: She usually can't wait for presents, she gets pretty antsy.

Andrea: It was friday the 13th and we were going to spend our night running errands and relaxing.

Peter: Yes, running errands on a friday night is usually pretty normal for us.

Andrea: We were heading out the door when I brought up the early christmas plan. Jokingly, I suggested I could go in the kitchen and he could wrap one of my presents. To my amazement he agreed!

Peter: I wanted to wait until Christmas to give my "special gift", but she is very persuasive. I decided that I couldn't wait any longer, so I decided to give in and give her the early Christmas present now.

Andrea: I was reluctant to leave the room because I wasn't sure he was actually going to do it. As I stood in the kitchen I could hear a bag moving around as he was looking for the gift.

Peter: The gift had been in my closet for a couple weeks, so I made sure to bury it among my other presents to give, as to be sure she would never be able to see it.

Andrea: Finally after what seemed like forever to me he called for me to go back into the room.

Peter: Ok, so by this point i'm getting pretty nervous. This was no ordinary gift I had for her, it was a very special one.

Andrea: I sat at the end of the bed as he sat in the chair next to me. He read me a wonderful poem that he had written for me.

Peter: Andrea likes to write poetry and stories and I have always told her she is really good at it. I always told her that I could never write a poem if my life depended on it. She always encouraged me to try... so I did. Here is my poem that I wrote for her:

Target

I would go to work every day.
Thinking and thinking of just the right words to say.

I knew it would be hard, but it was a chance I had to take.
As the moment approached, I started to shake.

But there you were in that kleenex aisle.
I looked up at you and saw that beautiful smile.

I searched for the right words, I didn't know what to say.
So I simply made an invitation for that Friday.

So as I look back on it now.
And think about my wonderful girl known sometimes as MooCow.

I think about that beautiful day at Target.
When she and I first met.

Andrea: I was in tears and I couldn't have asked for more. Then he got down on one knee and asked the big question.

Peter: By this time I was shaking so much and I was getting tears in my eyes too.

Andrea: How could I say no!! After that came telling everyone and by christmas word had gotten around that we were engaged.

Peter: Being able to tell everyone was great. It was interesting seeing how each person reacted to the big news.

Andrea: And then the planning started...

Peter: I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my one and only sweet pea.
